The 5 Best Beach Days in North Wales

Many often forget that some of the best beaches in the world are right on our doorstep here in the UK. In fact, 5 British beaches have been voted amongst the best in the world, amongst them Welsh beaches.

As part of a new series for Birch Stays we’re writing guides to the questions we get asked the most from our guests when staying in our wonderful North Wales holiday homes.

With many keen to make the most of the outdoors and the world famous beaches around the area, our first in the series will be our favourite beach days in North Wales.

Taking in beaches across all of North Wales, including Anglesey, many are within walking distance of our amazing holiday homes and we feel incredibly lucky to have them so close to us.

According to the Welsh Government tourism across the area rose by 25% last year, showing how popular Wales, and North Wales in particular, are becoming with holiday makers from all over the world, with North Welsh beaches contributing to that increase.

So here’s our list of the best North Wales Beach Days.

Red Wharf Bay, also known as Traeth Coch, is a stunning little bay nestled right at the foot of the charming and picturesque village of the same name.

Located on the island of Anglesey, a tourist favourite, the bay also sits between the villages of Pentraeth and Benllech, both bustling with activity, shops, pubs and cafes.

With so much close by you can be confident that you won’t get bored, but then, why would you? Red Wharf Bay has views stretching right across the bay and into the Irish sea.

With nearly 10 square miles of fine sand at low tide, it also attracts an abundance of wildlife and is even a designated nature reserve.

Even better news, dogs are allowed on this beach so you bring along your furry friends for a day of fun, sand and exploring some incredible Welsh villages.

And overlooking the bay is one of our favourite pubs and restaurants, The Ship Inn, which will feature highly on our upcoming best pubs list!

This stunning little village right on the Welsh coast really is one of the jewels of North Wales and sits right at the top of Anglesey, the island that sidles into the Irish sea from the north coast.

Filled to the brim with charming cottages and holiday homes, wonderful pubs and cafes, this is one of the highlights of Wales and attracts thousands of visitors every year.

One of the reasons it’s so popular is, of course, the amazing beach situated right on the cusp of the village, with amazing sand stretching out right down the coastline with amazing views.

It’s mainly sandy but does feature rock pools which are great for kids to explore or for big kids who just love to go and have a look through to see what crabs and sea creatures they can find.

Benllech beach does have restrictions on dogs so please double check before planning to take furry friends with you on what the rules are.

It’s an excellent place to stay with family, friends, or just about any group you care to mention.

Aberffraw really is one of Anglesey’s best kept secrets, and now you’re also in the know. A rarely busy gem of a beach off the beaten track, Aberffraw offers absolutely stunning views and scenery.

To contribute to the sense of a hidden treat, you’ll need to park up or get to the nearby car park and then walk over the bridge and through scenic countryside to get to the beach which is almost completely sand.

Secluded, pretty and less busy than other beaches in the area, it’s the perfect place to spend the day with family, friends, or both and we’d encourage you to think about taking a picnic.

Great news too, it’s also dog friendly so you can feel free to bring your pets with you to enjoy the Welsh scenery too.

Perhaps our favourite of the collection, Rhosneigr beach is not just one of the best beaches in Wales or the UK, it’s one of the best beaches in Europe and is the winner of the Green Coast seaside award.

A popular tourism location for good reason, Rhosneigr actually consists of two beaches with Traeth Crigyll and Traeth Llydan, two beautiful long stretches of sand, making up the Rhosneigr area.

A popular walking destination you can be consumed by the views, the stunning dunes and the rocky pools dotted all along the coast. It has plenty of room for a full family day and is within easy walking distance of the wonderful town as well as the famous Oyster Catcher right next to the sand.
