Things to do in Llandudno for groups
Things to do in Llandudno with a group: the Great Orme tramway, the pier, Conwy Castle, where 20 of you can park and eat, and a plan for when it rains.

Llandudno is a seaside town on the North Wales coast, with two beaches and two limestone headlands: the Great Orme and the Little Orme. The best things to do in Llandudno are around the Great Orme, where you will find a tramway from 1902, the Llandudno cable car and copper mines that go back 4,000 years.
We wrote this guide for groups, from milestone birthdays to three-generation families. It also covers parking, group rates, long tables and rain.
If you are looking for things to do in Llandudno for families, the pier, Happy Valley and the Alice trail are easy wins. For things to do in Llandudno for adults, add the mines, Marine Drive and a long lunch on the promenade.
What to see in Llandudno: start with the Great Orme
The Great Orme is the first place to visit in Llandudno. It is a 207m headland at the pier end of town, with Kashmir goats, a summit café and bar, and three ways up that do not involve walking. The tramway starts at Victoria Station, and the Llandudno cable car rises from Happy Valley.
The Great Orme Tramway has run since 1902. It is Britain’s only cable-hauled public road tramway. You change cars halfway up, and it runs from March to early November.
The cable car goes just over a mile to the summit in about nine minutes. When it opened in 1969, it was Britain’s longest passenger cable car. It stops in high wind, so check before the whole group queues.
For something different, visit the Great Orme Mines. These copper mines go back 4,000 years. The self-guided tunnels take about 45 minutes, and the season ends in late October.
Marine Drive is the third way up. It is a 5-mile toll road around the Orme, one-way for the first 3.5 miles. The toll includes summit parking, which has 141 spaces.

Can groups book the Great Orme Tramway?
Yes. Groups of 10 or more get a discount on the Great Orme Tramway if they book ahead by phone or email. The tramway does not guarantee a time slot, though. Treat the booking as a better price, not a set reservation, and do not build lunch around it.
West Shore and the Alice in Wonderland trail
West Shore is the quieter Llandudno beach, facing Conwy, and the best place for sunset. Alice Liddell, the girl who inspired Alice in Wonderland, holidayed here with her family at a house called Penmorfa. Lewis Carroll's diaries do not record a visit, and the town is happy to leave it there.
The Alice trail links 34 points around town, including 12 statues, over about 2.5 miles. Allow two to three hours from the Town Hall, or longer if the group stops for coffee.
Happy Valley, the oldest park in Conwy county, sits below the cable car. It has terraced gardens, a camera obscura and mini golf.

How long is Llandudno pier?
Llandudno Pier is 2,295ft (700m) long. It is the longest pier in Wales and the fifth longest in the UK. It opened in 1877, is Grade II-star listed, and was named Pier of the Year in 2025. The return walk is almost a mile, which counts as exercise.
The Llandudno promenade runs east from the pier along North Shore beach. Codman’s Punch and Judy has played here since 1860, from Easter to September. Boat trips leave from the promenade jetty: 25 minutes to the caves and lighthouse, or an hour round both Ormes, paid for on board.
Things to do in Llandudno when it rains
When it rains, go underground or indoors. The options are the Great Orme Mines in season, a show at Venue Cymru's 1,450-seat theatre, or back to the house. The Cresta toboggan at the dry ski slope only runs when it is dry, which is less obvious than it sounds, so save it for the next morning.
The toboggan run is 575m long and suitable for adults and kids, open year-round at the ski center.
At Plas y Mor in Rhos-on-Sea, the rainy-day plan is already built in. There is a heated indoor pool, a hot tub, a sauna, a games room and a cave bar.
In North Wales, rain is a plan, not a problem.
Where to eat in Llandudno with a large group
Book before you travel and ask about a set menu, because a kitchen feeding 25 at once would rather know in advance. Dylan's on East Parade is the restaurant's largest site, takes functions with set menus and has an event space outside the summer season. Start there.
The groups who have booked Plas y Mor so far average 27 people and arrive on a Friday for the weekend. That is a lot of chairs to find in Llandudno restaurants on a Saturday. One night out and one night in is the easier maths.

Things to do near Llandudno
Conwy Castle is the day trip worth leaving town for. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986, and it is ringed by 1.3km of town walls with 21 towers. You can walk there on the Wales Coast Path, 4 miles from West Shore.
For a slower afternoon, Bodnant Garden is one of the best places to visit near Llandudno. The No. 25 bus from town stops at the gate.

Is Llandudno worth visiting?
Yes, especially for a group with mixed ages and mixed ideas of a good time. In one weekend you can ride a 1902 tramway, walk the longest pier in Wales and go underground in Bronze Age mines. Out of season, check what is open before you promise anyone the summit.
