Where to Go in the Cotswolds with Kids: School Holiday Ideas
The Cotswolds may be famous for pretty villages and country pubs, but it’s also full of things to do with kids during the school holidays. Think wildlife parks, farm attractions, soft play, castles, adventure playgrounds and even beaches – all mixed in with scenic countryside and relaxed market towns. It’s an easy, flexible destination for families, especially if you balance village wandering with places where kids can properly burn off energy.
1. Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens
Easily one of the best family days out in the Cotswolds. There’s loads of space, amazing animal encounters (giraffes, rhinos, lions), and plenty to keep kids moving all day. The on-site soft play is a huge bonus if the weather turns, and the food is genuinely good (no sad sandwiches in sight). A big hit with primary-age kids.
2. Crocodiles of the World
A slightly unexpected but very memorable Cotswolds family attraction. Home to crocodiles, alligators, snakes and other reptiles, it’s fascinating without being overwhelming. Great for kids who love animals that are a bit different, and compact enough to work well for a half-day outing.

3. Bourton-on-the-Water (with kid-friendly stops)
Yes, it’s popular – but with good reason. Bourton-on-the-Water works well for families thanks to Birdland, where kids can get close to penguins and flamingos, and the Model Village, which is surprisingly engaging for younger ones. Go early, expect crowds later, and treat it as a short visit rather than an all-day mission.
4. The Cotswold Farm Park
A classic thing to do with kids in the Cotswolds, especially for animal-loving little ones. With hands-on farm experiences, play areas (bouncy pillow, playground, sand pit and soft play!) and seasonal events, it’s an easy, contained day out that works well with toddlers and primary-age children.

5. Cotswold Country Park & Beach
Yes, an actual beach, complete with sand, paddle-friendly water and space to run. Brilliant in warmer months and still fun on wetter days with buckets and wellies. There’s also adventure play, open green space and cafés nearby, making it a great family-friendly attraction in the Cotswolds.
6. Roves Farm (worth the short drive)
Just outside the Cotswolds but well worth including if you’re nearby. Roves Farm is hands-on, friendly and brilliant for younger children, with animals, play areas and seasonal activities. Ideal if you’re looking for a relaxed, rural family day out without crowds.

7. Warwick Castle (big wow factor for kids)
The Cotswolds aren’t particularly known for historial castle, but Warwick Castle is close enough for a fantastic day trip… and it’s a huge hit with kids! Think jousting, falconry shows, trebuchets firing and knight training. It’s unapologetically theatrical, but that’s exactly why children love it.
8. Blenheim Palace & Adventure Play
Another great castle option for families, not particularly because of the history but because of everything built around it. There’s a huge play area, mini train, maze and loads of space to roam. Pair it with a wander around nearby Woodstock for lunch.

9. Kid-Friendly Towns (with treats for grown-ups too)
Not all Cotswold towns are buggy-friendly, but Cirencester, Witney and Woodstock are good options with playgrounds, easy parking and space to breathe. Kids can play, parents can browse shops or grab coffee.
10. Easy Walks & Outdoor Adventures
The Cotswolds are full of gentle, family-friendly walks – perfect for free activities in the school holidays. Look for routes with rivers, woodland paths and space to explore rather than long village-to-village hikes. National Trust estates and country parks are often your best bet for toilets, cafés and happy kids.

Bonus Tip: Garden Centres = Secret Weapon
Not glamorous, but very effective. Garden centres around the Cotswolds are often brilliant for families: easy parking, good food, space for buggies, decent changing facilities and sometimes play areas too. When everyone’s hungry and grumpy, they’re a quiet lifesaver.
